By Polly Basak - Cambridge, UK - The Cambridge Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) in the UK has organized a number of events to coincide with the national Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) week of action against Israel which starts on Saturday 6 November.
Since the Gaza invasion in 2008, which resulted in the death of 1,400 Palestinians and the recent flotilla attack where nine peace activists were killed in international waters, support for the BDS movement in the UK has strengthened and grown.
Martin Iqbal, a member of the Cambridge PSC explained to PNN the ethos behind the BDS movement. “Complicit governments in the Arab world and the West have failed the Palestinians”, he said. “The responsibility now lands with the people to enact change. The BDS movement is a global condemnation of racism and apartheid, and is now the most effective way of pressuring the Israeli government to end its criminal occupation, siege, and ethnic cleansing of Palestinian lands.”
