We, Kairos Palestine – co-authors of the “Moment of Truth” document, which is Christian Palestinians’ word to the world about the Israeli occupation of Palestine and a call for support in opposing it – send you warm greetings from Bethlehem.

We have rejoiced at the news of your rescue, we marvel at your strength and courage, and we hope the past weeks have been healthy and happy for you and your families.

However, we also write with concern regarding your recent invitation from the Israeli government to visit the Holy Land. Of course, we would be honored by your presence in our home – this is not what we object to! But we question the motives of Israel in issuing this invitation, spotlighting what you have suffered and endured, while Israel continues to damage, degrade, and suppress Palestinians under military occupation. Charity – which is also to say, humanity, justice, and respect – begins at home.

On November 6th The Jerusalem Post published an article written by G. Steinberg and J. Edelstein titled, 'Turning the Tables on BDS'. The article discusses the need for Israel to implement a counterstrategy to deal with the BDS campaign (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions for Palestine). The article also explains how the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) in partnership with the Jewish Council of Public Affairs (JCPA), has organized an effort designed to discredit the main organizers and actors of BDS.

Steinberg and Edelstein stress how specific directors of some of the NGO's involved in the BDS campaign such as Nigel Parry, Ali Abunimah and Naim Ateek (from Electronic Intifada and Sabeel respectively) are supposedly anti-Semitic and preach for the destruction of Israel. In fact, there is an apparent confusion in the article between anti-Semitism and anti-Israeli commentary in general.

There are few people today who are campaigning in support of Palestinian rights, and who do not differentiate between anti-Semitism and anti-Israeli sentiment. There is a world of difference between the two, but in usual Israeli propaganda fashion, the two are easily confused and become one: anti-Semitism.

LONDON – If you're roaming the streets of London and fancy a hot cup of tea in the cold British weather, a taste of home will not be hard to come by. A new Israeli brand of tea infusions has recently entered the English market and won the hearts of many London diehard tea fanatics.

However, you won't be able to identify the brand by its package, which does not mention Israel as the country of origin.

The Israeli tea is manufactured in Bethlehem of Galilee in the Jezreel Valley by a little label called The Spicy Way.

Police arrest 2 protesters who locked themselves to a cement-filled barrel at shop's entrance; store reopens for business.

Pro-Palestinian activists blockaded an Ahava store in London's Covent Garden on Monday, resulting in temporary closure of the store.

Two activists reportedly locked themselves to a cement-filled barrel at the entrance to the property. Police were called to the store, and the two were subsequently arrested on charges of aggravated trespassing, and taken to a central London police station.

#BDS: Update on DePaul’s divestment from Sabra products: Official Statement

Over one week ago, concerned students at DePaul University in Chicago prepared a campaign against the sale of Sabra hummus in campus food and dining facilities. University administrators privately announced to the students that thesale of Sabra products will temporarily be discontinued. Today, the university released a formal statement to the public:

DePaul University’s Dining Services has temporarily stopped the sale of Sabra hummus pending a review by the university’s Fair Business Practices Committee. The temporary suspension of the sale of the Sabra product was prompted by a request by the Students for Justice in Palestine at DePaul. The organization expressed concern that the company that makes the product has been a voice of support for the ongoing Israeli occupation. In the meantime, Chartwells, DePaul’s dining services vendor, will make hummus and serve it in the dining halls.

أعلنت محكمة راسل حول فلسطين في ختام مداولاتها، أمس، في لندن، أن عدداً من الشركات الغربية متواطئة مع الكيان الصهيوني في ارتكابها جرائم حرب وانتهاك القوانين الدولية . وقالت محكمة راسل، التي تُعد محكمة دولية للشعب أنشأتها مجموعة كبيرة من الناشطين في مجال تعزيز السلام والعدالة في الشرق الأوسط وتتخذ من لندن مقراً لها، في بيان، “إن شركات دولية وبريطانية تساعد الاحتلال “الإسرائيلي” للأراضي الفلسطينية ومتواطئة في جرائم الحرب التي ارتكبتها “إسرائيل” . وأضافت في بيانها أن “إسرائيل” والشركات المتواطئة مارست انتهاكات واضحة للقانون الدولي والقانون الدولي لحقوق الإنسان، وهذا يتصل بتوريد الأسلحة وبناء وصيانة الجدار العازل غير القانوني وتوفير الخدمات للمستوطنات غير المشروعة في الضفة الغربية .

وضربت المحكمة أمثلة على تواطؤ الشركات الدولية، منها قيام الشركة البريطانية  الدنماركية “جي 4 إس” بتزويد “إسرائيل” بمعدات تفتيش وماسحات الجسد الضوئية لاستخدامها على الحواجز في الضفة الغربية” . وقالت المحكمة التي لا تعتبر قراراتها ملزمة “إن شركة كاتربيلر ومقرها الولايات المتحدة زوّدت “إسرائيل” بجرافات تستخدمها في هدم منازل الفلسطينيين وبناء المستوطنات على أراضيهم” . وحددت محكمة راسل سبل الإنصاف القانونية، وأصدرت حكماً بعد يومين من المداولات دعت فيه إلى اتخاذ إجراءات مقاطعة ضد “إسرائيل” بعد عرض أدلة دامغة على هيئة المحلفين حول تورطها في انتهاك القانون الدولي .

#BDS: البيان الختامي لمؤتمر "السياسة الخارجية الأوروبية تجاه القضية الفلسطينية"

نظم مركز الزيتونة للدراسات والاستشارات مؤتمر "السياسة الخارجية الأوروبية تجاه القضية الفلسطينية"، في فندق كراون بلازا في بيروت، بمشاركة نحو 130 متخصصاً وخبيراً ومهتماً بالشأن الفلسطيني وبالسياسة الخارجية الأوروبية، كما كانت هناك مشاركات مهمة من وفود تمثل جامعة الدول العربية، وعدد من سفراء أو ممثلي سفارات دول عربية وإسلامية وأوروبية، بالإضافة إلى جنوب إفريقيا.

وقد ناقش المؤتمر في أجواء علمية جادة وبنّاءة، على مدى يومين، خلفيات السياسة الخارجية الأوروبية، والأدوار السياسية والاقتصادية والأمنية الأوروبية تجاه القضية الفلسطينية، والعلاقة بـ"إسرائيل"، وأعطى تركيزاً خاصاً على المواقف البريطانية والفرنسية والألمانية والنرويجية، كما أعطى اهتماماً خاصاً بالجوانب القانونية والإعلامية. وبحث المؤتمر الدور الشعبي الأوروبي، كما تعرّض لدور الجاليات العربية والإسلامية في أوروبا، وإمكانات تأثيرها على السياسات الخارجية الأوروبية.

وقد خلص المؤتمر إلى ما يلي:

17. ناقش المؤتمر العلاقات الاقتصادية الأوروبية مع "إسرائيل"، ويدعو المؤتمر أوروبا إلى استخدام الوسائل الاقتصادية في الضغط لإنهاء الاحتلال، وليس في حصار الشعب الفلسطيني. ويمكن للضغط الاقتصادي الأوروبي على "إسرائيل" أن يشمل المقاطعة الاقتصادية، بما في ذلك منتجات المستوطنات الإسرائيلية؛ كما يمكن أن يشمل المقاطعة الأكاديمية والثقافية والسياسية وغيرها.

18. يدعو المؤتمر الدول الأوروبية إلى مراجعة علاقاتها الأمنية والعسكرية مع "إسرائيل"، والتي أدّت وتؤدي لاستمرار "إسرائيل" في عدوانها وجرائمها، ويدعو إلى عدم تقديم أية مساعدات أو خبرات عسكرية وأمنية، وإلى عدم بيع أية أسلحة، من شأنها أن تكرس الاحتلال وأن تُستخدم في ظلم وقهر الشعب الفلسطيني.

19. يُحيّي المؤتمر الجهود الشعبية الأوروبية وجهود العديد من السياسيين الأوروبيين، والجالية العربية والمسلمة في أوروبا، في دعم القضية الفلسطينية، كما يُحيّي المؤتمر جهود مقاطعة "إسرائيل"، ومحاولات كسر الحصار عن قطاع غزة وغيرها من الجهود، ويطالب المؤتمر بأن تتخذ هذه الجهود أشكالاً أكثر منهجية وأكثر تنظيماً وفاعلية.

#BDS: شبكة اوروبية مناهضة للاحتلال تقود حملة لنزع شرعية الدولة العبرية في الغرب

حذّر معهد ابحاث اسرائيلي من ازدياد الحملات المناهضة لسياسات الدولة العبرية وتعاظم ما يوجه اليها من انتقادات في الاونة الاخيرة في مناطق مختلفة في العالم.

ويضع المعهد جميع الهيئات والمنظمات والافراد المناوئين لسياسات اسرائيل التوسعية والعنصرية والاحتلالية تحت تصنيف (شبكة) من دون ان يورد اثباتات لهذا الزعم.

ويقول معهد (ريئوت) في تقرير نشره على موقعه على شبكة الانترنت انّ اسرائيل تواجه حملة دولية تستهدف نزع الشرعية عنها.

وطالب مركز الابحاث بالتعامل مع القضية على انها تهديد استراتيجي.

ويورد التقرير المظاهرات المناوئة لاسرائيل في الجامعات، والاحتجاجات عند مشاركة الرياضيين الاسرائيليين في منافسات في الخارج، والتحركات الاوروبية لمقاطعة المنتجات الاسرائيلية، والتنديدات باصدار اوامر اعتقال بحق قادة اسرائيليين يزورون المملكة المتحدة او اسبانيا.

Keep you MP on the right side of the law

Ken Clarke and William Hague have announced their intention to change the laws of arrest of war criminals so that the Director of Public Prosecutions has a veto on whether an arrest warrant can be issued against a suspected war criminal. This would endanger arrests from going ahead as it would introduce delay and allow political interference.

Campaigners will be asking their MPs to vote against proposed changes. Liberal Democrat Ministers are under pressure on this issue because many of them – including Vince Cable, Sarah Teather and Lynne Featherstone - signed a motion in December 2009, tabled by Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn, pledging to oppose legislation to restrict the power of universal jurisdiction in the UK courts.

#BDS: UK-Israeli trade up in defiance of public

The UK government has increased its bilateral trade with Israel despite concerns over war crimes committed by Tel Aviv authorities.

Those concerns prompted British trade unions to support an international initiative entitled “Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign” against Israel.

Business and Enterprise Minister Mark Prisk said that bilateral trade with Israel topped £3.07 billion in 2009, surpassing the £3 billion target set in 2008. “In the first 8 months of 2010, bilateral trade grew by 44 percent”..

“UK exports continue to increase in 2010, up 24 percent on the same period in 2009 (January to August),” Prisk told MPs in a written parliamentary reply.

He also boasted that Israel was an important trade partner with inward investment in Britain.

#BDS: Israel Shares Desalinization Expertise with Jordan and PA

Thirty participants from Jordan and the Palestinian Authority completed a week-long seminar on the topic of desalination earlier this month, according to a report posted on the International Desalination & Water Reuse Quarterly industry website on Saturday. The seminar was conducted by IDE Technologies, an Israeli company which is internationally recognized as a pioneer and leader in the delivery of sophisticated water solutions.

Desalination is a process by which undrinkable salt water is filtered to catch the salts and other particles suspended in the fluid, making the water drinkable.
