#BDS: OPEN LETTER to Red Hot Chili Peppers: Please cancel your gig in #Israel

"Dear Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and Josh Klinghoffer,

In 2005, Palestinian Civil Society called for a cultural boycott of Israel.  Red Hot Chili Peppers, as artists of conscience, please don’t ignore the nonviolent approach of  Palestinian people by breaching the boycott.  Your solidarity with the cultural boycott is needed.

The boycott call by Palestine has become a global movement, and with good reason.   The tragic plight of Native Americans parallels the plight of the indigenous people of Palestine.   In the case of Palestine, approximately 4.2 million people are subjected to Israel's harsh form of apartheid.  Israel’s Jewish population is about 5 million.  The collective punishment of 1.5 million people in Gaza and 2.7 million people in the West Bank/Occupied Jerusalem is a crime against humanity."

#BDS “Sí, se puede!” : Palestinian civil society salutes US Chicano/Latin@ youth for their principled stand in support of BDS

At the 19th annual national conference of M.E.Ch.A. (Movímíento Estudíantíl Chícan@ de Aztlán), the largest association of Latin@ youth in the US, chapter leaders voted by a landslide decision to endorse the global call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) on Israel, due to its military occupation and settlement of Palestine.

The announcement that M.E.Ch.A. chapter leaders endorsed BDS comes on the coinciding international observances of “César Chávez Day” and “Land Day,” commemorating ongoing civil rights and anti-colonial struggles for Latin@s and Palestinians. The chapter delegations (including some 600 delegates) met in Phoenix, AZ last weekend, the site of the very first M.E.Ch.A. conference in 1993. Read more, here.

#BDS Adidas draws Arab ire over Jerusalem marathon

Sports ministers from Arab states announce boycott of German sportswear giant over sponsorship of Jerusalem marathon.

Arab youth and sports ministers have announced a boycott of sportswear manufacturer Adidas over the company's sponsorship of last month's Jerusalem marathon.

"All companies that have sponsored the marathon of Jerusalem, including Adidas, will be boycotted," said Prince Nawaf bin Faisal, the Saudi chairman of the Arab Youth and Sports Council of Ministers, after a meeting in Jeddah on Wednesday.

Prince Nawaf told a press conference the ministers had also agreed to organise a separate marathon next year to coincide with the annual Jerusalem event.

Entitled "Jerusalem is Ours", that event will take place in cities throughout the Arab world next March.

"Israel is trying to misguide public opinion into believing that Jerusalem is its capital and that is a violation of all UN resolutions," added Nawaf.

About 15,000 runners took part in the March 16 Jerusalem marathon, which sparked controversy because part of the route passed through illegally occupied East Jerusalem, which Israel captured during the 1967 Six-Day War. Source.
