#BDS: #Saudi Issued Visas for Israelis Holding American Passports
"Levy told Haaretz he was certain his wife and daughters would not be able to attend the ceremony, as their passports are full of visas from Israel and his wife and one of his daughters were born in Israel. To his surprise, when he went to the Saudi consulate in Los Angeles, the attendants stamped their passports, and no one asked any questions.
In spite of their fears before the trip, Levy said his family was treated to royal hospitality during their entire stay in Saudi Arabia. He said that even when people were aware of his religion and his family's background, he was treated no different than anyone else. Also, Levy said Saudis were fascinated with hearing what he and other visitors think of their country, and if their expectations were proved wrong or not."

#BDS: #Saudi King Faisal Award to an American Prof who Worked in #Israel
An American professor won the King Faisal International Prize in Medicine, popularly known as the "Arab Nobel Prize."
After he was informed of his victory, Levy rushed to check the contest Web site, where he found his picture and biography already on the homepage.
The prize committee had posted Levy's biography exactly as he submitted it, with one glaring exception: the line showing his post-doctoral work at the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel had been deleted.

#BDS: OPEN LETTER to Red Hot Chili Peppers: Please cancel your gig in #Israel
"Dear Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and Josh Klinghoffer,
In 2005, Palestinian Civil Society called for a cultural boycott of Israel. Red Hot Chili Peppers, as artists of conscience, please don’t ignore the nonviolent approach of Palestinian people by breaching the boycott. Your solidarity with the cultural boycott is needed.
The boycott call by Palestine has become a global movement, and with good reason. The tragic plight of Native Americans parallels the plight of the indigenous people of Palestine. In the case of Palestine, approximately 4.2 million people are subjected to Israel's harsh form of apartheid. Israel’s Jewish population is about 5 million. The collective punishment of 1.5 million people in Gaza and 2.7 million people in the West Bank/Occupied Jerusalem is a crime against humanity."

#BDS “Sí, se puede!” : Palestinian civil society salutes US Chicano/Latin@ youth for their principled stand in support of BDS
At the 19th annual national conference of M.E.Ch.A. (Movímíento Estudíantíl Chícan@ de Aztlán), the largest association of Latin@ youth in the US, chapter leaders voted by a landslide decision to endorse the global call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) on Israel, due to its military occupation and settlement of Palestine.
The announcement that M.E.Ch.A. chapter leaders endorsed BDS comes on the coinciding international observances of “César Chávez Day” and “Land Day,” commemorating ongoing civil rights and anti-colonial struggles for Latin@s and Palestinians. The chapter delegations (including some 600 delegates) met in Phoenix, AZ last weekend, the site of the very first M.E.Ch.A. conference in 1993. Read more, here.

#BDS Adidas draws Arab ire over Jerusalem marathon
Sports ministers from Arab states announce boycott of German sportswear giant over sponsorship of Jerusalem marathon.
Arab youth and sports ministers have announced a boycott of sportswear manufacturer Adidas over the company's sponsorship of last month's Jerusalem marathon.
"All companies that have sponsored the marathon of Jerusalem, including Adidas, will be boycotted," said Prince Nawaf bin Faisal, the Saudi chairman of the Arab Youth and Sports Council of Ministers, after a meeting in Jeddah on Wednesday.
Prince Nawaf told a press conference the ministers had also agreed to organise a separate marathon next year to coincide with the annual Jerusalem event.
Entitled "Jerusalem is Ours", that event will take place in cities throughout the Arab world next March.
"Israel is trying to misguide public opinion into believing that Jerusalem is its capital and that is a violation of all UN resolutions," added Nawaf.
About 15,000 runners took part in the March 16 Jerusalem marathon, which sparked controversy because part of the route passed through illegally occupied East Jerusalem, which Israel captured during the 1967 Six-Day War. Source.

"A leading geneticist at Soroka University Medical Center and Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba appeared in Qatar on the Doha Debates TV program over the weekend that was dedicated to the subject of consanguinity -- inbreeding by first cousins that causes genetic disorders in the Arab population.
Prof. Ohad Birk, head of Soroka’s genetic institute and head of the Morris Kahn Laboratory of Human Genetics at the National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev, was invited to appear as a leading expert on the phenomenon, which medical experts and some Arab leaders are trying to prevent due to the human suffering involved. The program was broadcast by the BBC World News several times over the weekend."

#BDS South Africans recall their own history during Israeli Apartheid Week
This year’s Israeli Apartheid Week in South Africa created a buzz nationwide. BDS South Africa and other Palestine solidarity groups teamed up with trade unionists, political parties, student bodies, churches, youth organizations and activists in Gaza to reach out to a wide audience. Organizers used various means to inspire broad-based support forboycott, divestment and sanctions activism.
Huge billboards were put up to announce Israeli Apartheid Week. Durban-based GangsOfGraffiti inspired fellow street artists and graffiti writers to participate by creating works with “Free Palestine” as the theme. On walls in several cities, artwork appeared in support of IAW and boycott activism. In thirteen towns around the country, the filmRoadmap to Apartheid was screened, including all major cities and in Soweto (“National film tour, 5-11 March 2012,” BDS South Africa ). Read more, here.

Two Israeli refusers on why they support #BDS
Our difficulty with understanding the complex reality of Palestine and Israel was founded on the difficulty of recognizing that crimes were committed in our name, on a daily bases, by virtue of being Israeli citizens. We were born as Israeli citizens, and by virtue of this, the decision was made for us that we were to bear the burden of financing the occupation. Over time we have come to the understanding that as long as these crimes continue, they will be done in our name and at our expense. Read more, here.
