#BDS: Palestinian Trade Union Coalition for BDS (PTUC-BDS) formed at historic conference
"Occupied Palestine, 4 May 2011 – In commemoration of the first of May – a day of workers struggle and international solidarity – the first Palestinian trade union conference for boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel (BDS) was held in Ramallah on 30 April 2011, organized by almost the entirety of the Palestinian trade union movement, including federations, professional unions, and trade union blocks representing the entire spectrum of Palestinian political parties. The conference marked a historic event: the formation of the Palestinian Trade Union Coalition for BDS (PTUC-BDS) as the largest coalition of the Palestinian trade union movement. PTUC-BDSwill provide the most representative Palestinian reference for international trade unions, promoting their support for and endorsement of the BDS Call, launched by Palestinian civil society in 2005, guided by the guidelines and principles adopted by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC), of which PTUC-BDS has become a key component.
The global trade union movement has always played a key and inspiring role in its courageous commitment to human rights and adoption of concrete, ground-breaking, labor-led sanctions against oppressive regimes in a show of solidarity with oppressed peoples around the world. The trade union boycott of apartheid South Africa stands out as a bright example of this tradition of effective solidarity. Trade unions today are taking the lead in defending the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, justice, freedom, equality and the right of return of our refugees as stipulated in United Nations General Assembly Resolution 194. Many of them have heeded the call from Palestinian civil society, and its labor movement in particular, to adopt BDS as the most effective form of solidarity with the Palestinians in our struggle to end Israeli occupation and apartheid."

#BDS; Facebook campaigns launched for Palestinian boycott of Israeli products
"Palestinian youth groups have used Facebook to call for the boycott of Israeli goods and the “prohibition” of their entry into Palestinian homes. The move comes as a response to Israeli efforts to sabotage the reconciliation moves between Fatah and Hamas, in particular the decree to stop the transfer of tax revenue to the Palestinian Authority treasury.
A member on one of the Facebook groups posted on the site: “Father, if you please, do not feed us Israeli poison.” Another wrote: “We accept their stealing of our blood and hearts with the power of gunpowder, but how can we accept with our own will their entry into our kitchens and stomachs.”

#BDS: Minnesota Activists Seek Divestment From Israel Bonds
"Questioning both the morality and the legality of their state’s investments in the state of Israel, a group of Minnesota activists has warned its state government to divest from Israel—or face possible legal action.
After two years of statewide grassroots organizing, the group, called the “Minnesota Break the Bonds Campaign” (MN BBC), formally issued its divestment demand to the Minnesota State Board of Investment (SBI) on Feb. 1, 2011.
Minnesota currently holds two Israel bonds worth a total of $18.4 million. The money used to purchase the bonds came from pension and retirement funds collected from taxpayers on behalf of Minnesota state employees."

#BDS: 51 Canadian filmmakers protest festival’s normalization with Israel
"Today 51 Canadian filmmakers issued a statement of protest to Hot Docs documentary film festival stating “as members of the film and arts community, we are deeply disappointed to learn that Hot Docs has decided to partner with the Israeli organization CoPro Documentary Marketing Foundation. Intentionally or not, this decision puts Hot Docs in direct support of the Israeli state and its ongoing violations of international law.” The list of signatories includes longtime Hot Docs favourites such as Brenda Longfellow and Ali Kazimi, as well as past jurors and supporters.
The statement is specifically protesting the organization of a Canadian Delegation to CoPro 13. Organized by the CoPro Documentary Marketing Foundation (CoPro), it is a forum for international documentary co-productions to be held in Tel Aviv from 23 – 30 of May, 2011. The funders of CoPro include the Israel Film Council, an official part of the Israeli Ministry of Science, Culture and Sports, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Golan Heights Winery, which operates illegally in the occupied Syrian Golan heights. Such collaboration between Hot Docs and CoPro is designed to highlight and promote the Israeli documentary filmmaking industry and cultural production in a way that diverts attention from Israel’s ongoing violations of international law and human rights abuses against the Palestinian people."

#BDS: Legendary intellectual and academic Dr. Cornel West endorses BDS
"Following the recent direct action on the University of Arizona (UA) campus — in which an enormous mock wall was constructed to bring attention to Israel’s wall in the West Bank and the wall at the US-Mexico border — legendary intellectual and academic Dr. Cornel West formally called on the UA community to divest from corporations that profit from Israel’s illegal settlement policies and the occupation of Palestine as well as from “immigrant and indigenous suffering and youth cultural censorship in Arizona and nationwide.”

#BDS: BDS: Setting the record straight
"The Palestinian civil society campaign for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel came under attack in recent weeks from Murdoch's media outlets in particular, politicians and various interest groups as supporters of BDS in Sydney's Marrickville Council struggled to keep the BDS resolution that they had adopted in December last year. The wild distortions and outright fabrications against them and BDS peaked in an article by Leo Shanahan "Greens' boycott rebounds", which was published in The Australian on the day of the Council meeting (19 April), the writer obviously intending to smear the BDS movement and discredit its principled and brave supporters in Marrickville Council.
Marrickville Council has since reaffirmed its support for the principles of the BDS campaign by actually spelling out the three fundamental Palestinian rights that constitute the minimum requirements for the Palestinian people to exercise our right to self determination."
