#BDS: 'Arabs dying to do business with Israel'

"The wave of upheavals washing through the Middle East has not skipped Israeli businesses in the Arab world: The Delta factory in Cairo was shut down for several days; Israeli businesspeople leftEgypt, Tunisia and Bahrain along with other foreigners and some are afraid to go back; Egyptian gas flow to Israel was halted and the senior Egyptian partner in the international company marketing the gas fled the country.

What will be the revolutions' long-term effect? The Israeli defense establishment is suspicious: Military officials and commentators fear that free elections will strengthen radical Islamic parties, which will sever ties with Israel.

In the business community, on the other hand, some are watching the events optimistically, with the belief that the upheavals will lead to a "warm" peace of business cooperation.

'Egypt factory crucial'

Israel, Jordan, Egypt and the United States signed a special free trade agreement (Qualifying Industrial Zones), which is basically aimed at "bribing" the Egyptians and Jordanians to tighten their ties with Israel."

#BDS: جامعة الأقصى واللجنة التوجيهية لحملة المقاطعة تعقد ندوة في يوم الأرض

غزة -  من هبة الإفرنجي - أكد الدكتور حيدر عيد من حملة المقاطعة الأكاديمية والثقافية من جامعة الأقصى، أكد أن الحملة الفلسطينية لمقاطعة إسرائيل أعلنت أنه سيكون يوما عالميا للمقاطعة وفرض عقوبات على إسرائيل.

وأشار خلال ندوة بمناسبة الذكرى الخامسة والثلاثين ليوم الأرض، بعنوان،" يوم الأرض/ اليوم العالمي للمقاطعة وعدم الاستثمار وفرض العقوبات"، في جامعة الأقصى، بالتعاون مع اللجنة التوجيهية لحملة المقاطعة الأكاديمية والثقافية، أشار إلى أن كفاحنا في فلسطين من أجل حق تقرير المصير والحرية له صدى في جميع أنحاء العالم.

من ناحية أخرى؛ اعتبر الكاتب على أبو نعمة رئيس تحرير موقع الانتفاضة الفلسطينية، أن يوم الأرض، وقد أعلن أنه يوم المقاطعة الدولية، معتبرا أن المقاطعة والعقوبات أنه أسلوب كفاح جديد، على الرغم من أن الفلسطينيين يستخدمونه منذ مدة.

وأكد أبو نعمة أن المقاطعة والعقوبات هو أسلوب جديد يغير المواجهة لتصبح إلى جانب الفلسطينيين.

#BDS: اختتام فعاليات اسبوع التمييز العنصري الإسرائيلي في 55 عاصمة عالمية

القدس -معا- اختتمت فعاليات اسبوع التمييز العنصري الإسرائيلي "الابرتهايد" الذي توزعت فعالياته بين 55 عاصمة عالمية، ومن بينها عاصمة الاتحاد الاوروبي بروكسل

وفي بروكسل اتسع نطاق الحدث ليمتد حتى ثلاثة اسابيع متتالية استمرت حتى نهاية شهر اذار المنصرم، فقد قامت العديد من المؤسسات الصديقة للشعب الفلسطيني وبالتعاون مع الاتحاد العام لطلبة فلسطين – بروكسل بنشاطات في الجامعات البلجيكية حول التمييز العنصري الاسرائيلي لتوعية الطلبة وتثقيفهم حول السياسة العنصرية التي تتبعها اسرائيل ضد الشعب الفلسطيني. 

ومن ضمن فعاليات هذا الحدث السنوي تم القيام بالعديد من الندوات الاكاديمية حول مفهوم التمييز العنصري في القانون الدولي، بالاضافة التركيز على ضرورة مقاطعة اسرائيل بما فيها المنتوجات الاسرائيلية.

#BDS: قطع جامعة جوهانسبورغ صلاتها بجامعة بنغوريون خطوة مهم

رام الله- معا- اعتبر الدكتور حنا عيسى خبير القانون الدولي بان ما قامت به جامعة جوهانسبورغ في جنوب افريقيا بقطع جميع صلاتها مع جامعة بنغوريون الاسرائيلية بسبب السياسة الاسرائيلية العدوانية في الاراضي المحتلة خطوة مهمة لانها تجعل مبدا مقاطعة اسرائيل معترفا به ولانها تشجع جامعات ومنظمات اخرى على السير في هذا الاتجاه.

واضاف الدكتور عيسى قائلا بان هذه المقاطعة تاتي في سياق حملة المقاطعة الاكاديمية لاسرائيل والتي تمثل احتجاجا سلميا تضامنيا مع الفلسطينيين بهدف فضح الانتهاكات الاسرائيلية لحقوق الانسان والقانون الدولي خصوصا السياسات المنهجية القائمة على تدمير متواصل للمؤسسات الاكاديمية والمجتمع الفلسطينيين كما تكشف للراي العام العالمي مدى تورط المؤسسات الاكاديمية الاسرائيلية في اطالة امد الاحتلال.

#BDS: حملة واسعة لحث البرلمان الاوروبي على مناقشة مقاطعة بضائع المستوطنات الاسرائيلية

 فيينا - 4 - 4 (كونا) -- اكد منسق الحملة الوطنية (الحرية لفلسطين) طارق شديد منسق اهمية الحملة التي تشمل دول الاتحاد الاوروبي ال 27 والهادفة الى جمع التواقيع اللازمة لحثهم على مناقشة مسألة مقاطعة البضائع المستوردة من المستوطنات الاسرائيلية غير الشرعية.

وأوضح شديد في تصريح لوكالة الانباء الكويتية (كونا) هنا ان هذه الحملة التي يشرف عليها العديد من الشخصيات الاوروبية الفاعلة من نواب وقيادات زارتها وفود تضم شخصيات فلسطينية مستقلة وممثلين عن منظمات المجتمع المدني تعمل على حشد التأييد الدولي من خلال تسليط الضوء على عدم شرعية البضائع المستوردة الى اوروبا من المستوطنات الاسرائيلية غير الشرعية والعمل على مقاطعتها كليا.

وردا على سؤال حول الصيغة القانونية التي اعتمد عليها المشرفون على هذه الحملة قال شديد انه تم الاستناد على فقرة في اتفاق لشبونة تنص على انه بمجرد الحصول على عريضة تضم مليون توقيع من مواطنين اوروبيين فإنه يتعين على البرلمان الاوروبي ان يناقش المطالب المتضمنة في هذه العريضة.

#BDS: مقاطعة (إسرائيل) أكاديميًا خطوة نحو عزلها

يرى متابعان للشأن الإسرائيلي، في قرار جامعة "جوهانسبرج" في جنوب إفريقيا مقاطعة جامعة "بن غوريون" الإسرائيلية، ومن قبلها عددٍ من الجامعات الأوروبية، دليلاً على تصاعد حالة العداء الدولية للسياسة التي تتبعها حكومة (إسرائيل) الحالية فيما يتعلق بالشأن الفلسطيني، سواء لجهة التصعيد في غزة أو لرفضها تجميد الاستيطان في أراضي الضفة الغربية. 

وأشارا في حديثين منفصلين مع "فلسطين"، إلى أن كافة المؤسسات التعليمية والأكاديمية على مستوى العالم مطالبة اليوم بالإعلان عن سياسة وقف التعاون الأكاديمي والمعلوماتي مع المؤسسات الإسرائيلية، وضرورة انتهاج سياسة جديدة نحو التعامل مع (إسرائيل) تتمثل في الرفض والمقاطعة لها، وعدم الخضوع لسياساتها العنصرية التي تفرضها على الفلسطينيين بصورة خاصة.

#BDS: Canadian Union of Postal Workers statement on Land Day/BDS Day of Action

"March 30, 2011 is the Global BDS Day of Action on Land Day, in solidarity with the Palestinian people’s right to self determination, freedom, and dignity.

The Palestinian Land Day commemorates the day in 1976 when Israeli military forces shot and killed six young Palestinian citizens of Israel. They were among thousands protesting the government’s expropriation of Palestinian land to build new Jewish-only settlements and expand existing ones. Today, Land Day symbolizes Palestinian resistance to the ongoing occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.

At the April 2008 CUPW National Convention, delegates overwhelmingly supported a resolution calling for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel until the occupation is ended, international law is abided by, and all citizens are treated equally.
CUPW is working to implement this resolution. We have worked out a partnership with a Palestinian trade union. We are supporting educational workshops and solidarity delegations.

So far they have held two seminars.
The first seminar was on Palestinian labour law and the grievance procedure. Participants learned their rights under the labour law, and gained skills in filing and processing grievances."

#BDS: Czech activists picket Ahava

"On Wednesday, March 30th, the Czech BDS campaign marked Land Day with an information stall, handing out leaflets outside an Ahava store on 28. Října street in central Prague, in solidarity with Palestinians and activists around the world. 

The stall ran from 1800 to 1900, following the same schedule as our weekly demonstration, which is held every Monday. The weekly event has been going on for nine months, and is expected to continue until businesses agree to stop selling Ahava products and other merchandise produced in the occupied territories.

Our campaign isn’t limited to Ahava and Czech activist groups have organized a number of demonstrations, public debates, concerts and film nights over the past year, with a series of lectures by Norman Finkelstein and a concert by LowKey and Shadia Mansour being highlights."

#BDS: Is the settlement boycott misdirected?

Interesting article about the importance of boycotting Israeli products, not just settlement products, though i disagree with much of the rest.


"The Palestinian call for boycott, divestment and sanction (BDS) of Israel continues to be one of the most controversial issues regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In a remarkably short time, the call has achieved numerous successes including the divestment of major European companies such Veolia in Israeli business deals, the support of international artists such as Roger Waters and the end of academic relationships with universities from South Africa to the United States. While BDS continues on its nonviolent path of resistance to Israel’s 44 year occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, progressive Jewish voices in the United States and Israel have been slow to embrace the potential of Palestinian nonviolence.

Now almost six years after the initial BDS call, some elements in the Jewish milieu have adopted a version of BDS called ’settlement boycott.’ On the surface, settlement boycott seems to be a wise ‘middle way’ for Jews that are critical of Israeli policy yet unwilling to join a Palestinian-led nonviolent initiative. However, a deeper look at the logic of settlement boycott reveals serious logical failures of the movement."

"Thirty five years ago today, a peaceful general strike by Israeli-Palestinians was met with bullets. Six people were killed and hundreds of others injured or arrested in what became known as Land Day. Two and a half months later, the Soweto uprisingbegan in South Africa, claiming far more lives, but laying down a marker in the struggle against apartheid. The timing of the two revolts melded the stirrings of solidarity consciousness with the Palestinians to apartheid comparisons with South Africa.

Three years before, in 1973, the UN General Assembly had adopted the International Convention on the  Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid. Its definition of apartheid applied to “inhuman acts committed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining domination by one racial group of persons over any other racial group of persons and systematically oppressing them.”

The question of whether Palestinians and Jews actually constitute distinct and separate racial groups is moot, but Israel’s domination and systematic oppression of Palestinians within and without the 1949 armistice line is well documented. The clear and accurate comparisons made by Bishop Desmond Tutu, the UN’s special rapporteurs John Dugard and Richard Falk, Uri Davis, and many others are not easily dispatched. But questions of terminology are political, as well as legal."

"Max Brenner Chocolates is a 100% Israeli-owned company belonging to the Strauss Group, the second largest Israeli food and beverage company.  On the “corporate responsibility” section of its website, the Strauss Group emphasizes the support it gives to the Israeli army.

Highlighting that it wants to “sweeten their special moment” the Strauss group touts that, for more than 30 years, it has supported the Golani reconnaissance platoon renowned for its murderous assaults on Palestinian civilians and its involvement in the 2006 invasion of Lebanon."
