PM: Last thing we need is settlement boycott from Israelis

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke at a cabinet meeting on Sunday regarding the artist boycott of the new cultural center in the West Bank settlement city of Ariel.

"The State of Israel is facing a delegitimization campaign from different sources across the globe, including attempts to implement economic, academic and cultural boycotts. The last thing we need is a boycott attempt from within Israel. I do not wish to infringe upon the right of every artists to express his own opinion, but we do not need to fund boycotts and support them in any way," said Netanyahu.

He added, "I am happy to hear that the respective theater companies have announced that the performances will continue as planned. This is the appropriate stance."

Palestinians prepare to battle 'Zionist editing' on Wikipedia

Association of Palestinian Journalists chairman calls on Palestinians to prepare for 'PR war' on Israel.

The next battle in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will be fought on the pages of the internet site Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia which anyone can edit.

Abed A-Nassar, chairman of the Association of Palestinian Journalists, has already begun preparing for the conflict, calling on Palestinian institutions to make Wikipedia pages more pro-Palestinian.

His call follows a recent article in Haaretz on a class organized by settlers to teach supporters how to register and edit Wikipedia pages, in order to make them more representative of the 'Zionist' viewpoint.

Organizers of the Israeli course say their aim is twofold: to affect Israeli public opinion by having people who share their ideological viewpoint take part in writing and editing for the Hebrew version, and to write in English so Israel's image can be bolstered abroad.

Palestinians must now launch a counter-attack against Israel's latest "public relations war", Nassar said.

الإيطاليون يقاطعون المنتجات الإسرائيلية

قاطعت شركتا "كووب" و"نورديكوناد"، اثنتان من أكبر سلاسل محلات السوبر ماركت بإيطاليا المنتجات الإسرائيلية، وأصدرتا قرارا بوقف بيع كل البضائع الإسرائيلية الموجودة على رفوفهما. جاء هذا القرار، الذى نشرته كل الجرائد الإيطالية، استجابة لضغط عدد كبير من الزبائن الذين يشاركون فى حملة دولية واسعة لمقاطعة إسرائيل رافضين شراء بضائع ومنتجات المستوطنات الإسرائيلية فى الأراضى الفلسطينية المحتلة.

تقوم الشركة الإسرائيلية "أجريسكو" المسئولة عن تصدير منتجات المستوطنين، بخلط البضائع القادمة من المستوطنات إلى إيطاليا بالبضائع الإسرائيلية الأخرى وتبيعها تحت بطاقة تعريف واحدة حتى لا يمكن تمييزها عن البضائع الأخرى. ودافعت "أجريسكو" عن تدليسها بالقول "إن منشأ المنتجات مكتوب فى الأوراق الملحقة بها طبقا للقانون الأوروبى وليست "أجريسكو" مجبرة على كتابته فوق البطاقة". ولكن ضغط الزبائن على "كووب" و"نورديكوناد" أجبرهما على وقف بيع المنتاجات الإسرائيلية فى محالهما ودفعهما إلى مطالبة "أجريسكو" بتمييز بضائع المستوطنات عن غيرها من البضائع.

وفى حين احتفلت المؤسسات الفلسطينية بقرار "كووب" و"نورديكوناد" اتهم وزير الخارجية الإيطالى "فرانكو فراتيني" الشركتين بالعنصرية أن الشركتين ردتا على التهمة بالتأكيد على أن القرار ليس مقاطعة لإسرائيل، وإنما مبادرة مؤقتة لضمان حق الزبائن فى الشفافية والاختيار.

شككت وسائل الإعلام الإسرائيلية من جانبها فى تصريح الشريكتين الإيطاليتين واعتبرت مبادرتهما مقاطعة واضحة لبضائع إسرائيل معبرة فى نفس الوقت عن خوفها من انتشار مبادرات مماثلة فى العالم كله تعرض صادراتها واقتصادها لخطر.

Channel 10, one of Israel’s three TV channels, aired a report this week that surely frightened a lot of viewers. Its title was “Who is Organizing the World-wide Hatred of Israel Movement?” and its subject: the dozens of groups in various countries which are conducting a vigorous propaganda campaign for the Palestinians and against Israel.

The activists interviewed, both male and female, young and old - quite a number of them Jews - demonstrate at supermarkets against the products of the settlements and/or of Israel in general, organize mass meetings, make speeches, mobilize trade unions, file lawsuits against Israeli politicians and generals.

According to the report, the various groups use similar methods, but there is no central leadership. It even quotes (without attribution, of course) the title of one of my recent articles, “The Protocols of the Elders of Anti-Zion” and it, too, asserts that there is no such thing. 

Indeed, there is no need for a world-wide organization, it says, because all over the place there is a spontaneous surge of pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli feeling. Recently, following the Operation Cast Lead offensive on Gaza and the flotilla affair, this process has gathered momentum.

'Actors' boycott on settlement Cultural Center will tear Israel apart'

Minister of Culture and Sport slams 36 actors, artists, who refuse to participate in productions at new theater in Ariel.

Minister of Culture and Sport Limor Livnat on Saturday responded harshly on Saturday to an announcement by 36 theater actors and staff who declared they would refuse to perform at a cultural center built in the settlement of Ariel.

"The theater directors should enlist immediately to address this crisis, since the actors and artists have decided to divide Israeli society," Livnat said.

The cultural center at the West Bank city of Ariel has been under construction for some 20 years, due to recurring funding shortages.

"This serious [boycott] creates a tear in the Israeli society and discriminates between audiences based on the political views of the actors and artists," Livnat went on to say. "Culture is a social bridge and we must leave politics out of the cultural and artistic realms."

أطلقت إسرائيل خطة دعائية جديدة عمادها تعيين طلاب مسيحيين سفراء لها في جامعات الدول الغربية، لمعالجة الصعوبات التي يواجهها مسؤولون إسرائيليون خلال تقديم محاضرات في جامعات العالم من قبل طلاب يقومون بإزعاجهم ويتهمونهم بارتكاب جرائم حرب.

وبادر البرلمان الإسرائيلي (الكنيست) بإطلاق هذه الخطة بهدف تحسين صورة إسرائيل التي تدهورت جراء "تقرير غولدستون" بشأن الحرب الإسرائيلية على قطاع غزة، ثم الاعتداء على "قافلة الحرية" التي كانت متجهة إلى القطاع.

يشار إلى أن عددا من الدبلوماسيين والسياسيين والأكاديميين الإسرائيليين يصطدمون منذ عدوان "الرصاص المصبوب" على غزة بانتقادات واحتجاجات قاسية خلال أداء محاضرات في جامعات أوروبية وأميركية على يد طلاب مسلمين وأجانب.

ويرى الكنيست أن الرد الأنجع على ذلك لا يتأتى من خلال طلاب يهود، بل بتأسيس وتنظيم خلايا من الطلاب المسيحيين المناصرين لإسرائيل في كل واحدة من جامعات العالم الغربي.

Israel to sell back gas to Egypt at $12b profit - report

Israel could make a 600% return on the resale of gas to meet a shortage in Egypt.

Egyptian daily "Al Shaab" reports that the Egyptian government is seeking to buy back 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas sold to Israel as part of the deal signed in 2005, under US pressure, and whose price per cubic meter was set at a level that in retrospect was significantly lower than the market price.

Anonymous sources told "Al Shaab" that internal discussions at Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources determined that at least half the natural gas sold to Israel under the deal would have to be repurchased at $14 billion, even though it was sold for $2 billion.

In January, Egypt's minister of petroleum said that Egypt would have to import gas to deal with a severe shortage created in its reserves and to meet increased household and industrial demand.

In recent weeks, the heat wave that struck the region has caused frequent power outages and water systems to be shut down in Egypt, resulting in demonstrations against the government. Demonstrators are demanding immediate imports of natural gas. At the same time, today's report has infuriated people over the government's intention "to pay Tel Aviv $12 billion" for goods that originated in Egypt.

Israel's Ministry of Finance has declined to comment.

مصر تشترى الغاز الطبيعى مرة أخرى من إسرائيل بعد تصديره لها بـ 7 أضعاف ثمنه لمواجهة أزمة انقطاع الكهرباء

فضيحة بكل المقاييس لو ثبت صحة ما نشرته صحيفة معاريف الإسرائيلية اليوم الثلاثاء، من أن الحكومة المصرية قررت شراء الغاز الطبيعى الذى صدرته لإسرائيل بـ 7 أضعاف ثمنه، حيث كانت اشترته إسرائيل بـ 2 مليار دولار وستشتريه القاهرة مرة أخرى بـ 14 مليار دولار، الأمر الذى يستوجب ردا فوريا من الحكومة المصرية وإعلانه للرأى العام.

زعمت الصحيفة العبرية أن الصفقة التى ستبرم قريبا عبارة عن إعادة 1.5 مليار متر مكعب من الغاز الطبيعى المصرى مرة أخرى الذى اشترته إسرائيل الأسبوع الماضى للقاهرة، ولكن بأكثر من ثمنه الحقيقى بسبع مرات خلال الأسبوع الجارى، وذلك بسبب أزمة الطاقة الطاحنة التى تعانى منها مصر الأيام الجارية ونقص ضخ الغاز الطبيعى لمحطات توليد الكهرباء. 

وقالت معاريف إن مصر كانت قد اضطرت لبيع الغاز الطبيعى لإسرائيل بعد ضغوط أمريكية كبيرة عام 2005، حيث وقع على الصفقة من الجانب المصرى وزير البترول، سامح فهمى، ومن الجانب الإسرائيلى وزير البنية التحتية بنيامين بن إليعازر، حيث نص الاتفاق على أن مصر تصدر لإسرائيل 1.7 مليار متر مكعب من الغاز الطبيعى مقابل 2.5 مليار دولار أسبوعيا. 

طلبة جامعة حيفا يقاطعون محاضرين إسرائيليين لتأييديهم للفلسطينيين

بيت لحم- معا- رغم ان العام الدراسي في اسرائيل لم يبدأ بعد، لكن حالة من الغضب والتوتر الشديد يعيشها حرم جامعة حيفا وطلبتها الذين طالب المئات منهم بمقاطعة محاضرين إسرائيليين مؤيدين للفلسطينيين شاركوا في احتجاجات ومظاهرات ضد إسرائيل والجيش وفقا لصحيفة معاريف الناطقة بالعبرية .

واضافت الصحيفة ان الطلبة المذكورين نشروا قائمة تشتمل على اكثر من عشرين محاضرا مطلوب مقاطعتهم لمشاركتهم بنشاطات احتجاجية وتأييديهم الفاسطينين .

ونقل الموقع عن احد الطلبة قولها: "إن من يكرس حياته من اجل الأعداء يجب أن يضحي بمصدر رزقه من اجلهم أيضا انه ليس من المنطق في الوقت الذي يحارب إخواننا من اجل إسرائيل ويتلقون الضربات ويُعتدى عليهم بالضرب على ظهر السفينة التركية التي ادعت بأنها سفينة سلام أن يشارك هؤلاء في احتجاجاتهم ويرددون خلال حملة المقاطعة عبارات الشجب والاستنكار ضد هؤلاء الجنود وعليه لن نتواجد في قاعات محاضراتهم ولن نشارك في دوراتهم ويجب أن يعلم هؤلاء أن لذلك يوجد ثمن باهظ".

من ناحيته وصف رئيس قسم الطلبة العرب نادي أبو يونس هذه الإجراءات "كتعبير عن العنصرية والفاشية التي بدأت منذ زمن وليست وليدة اليوم وتعبيرا عن سياسة تكميم الأفواه وشطب الأخريين".

Artists to refuse to perform in Ariel culture hall

Prominent actors, directors, playwrights send letter to boards of Israeli theaters in protest of plans to put on shows in news culture auditorium beyond Green Line. Yesha Council vows harsh response to 'vile, anti-Zionist' letter

A long line of actors and artists from all fields of the theater industry sent a letter to the boards of Israel's repertory theaters announcing they will refuse to perform in the new culture auditorium in Ariel, which is located outside the Green Line. It should be noted that tickets have already been sold to productions that include all of Israel's theaters.

The letter, addressed to the boards of the Cameri, Habima, Beit Lessin, Khan and the Haifa and Beersheba theatres, read: "We wish to express our disgust with the theater's board's plans to perform in the new auditorium in Ariel. The actors among us hereby declare that we will refuse to perform in Ariel, as well as in any other settlement. We urge the boards to hold their activity within the sovereign borders of the State of Israel within the Green Line."

Europe's economic boycott of Israel expanding

The decision by Norway's oil fund to withdraw its investment from Africa-Israel and Danya Cebus citing their involvement in settlement construction is the latest step in an ever expanding list of European private and governmental companies boycotting Israeli firms for political reasons.

Most of the cases pertain to claims of products being manufactured outside the Green Line and therefore in "occupied territory." Some of the cases serve as political protest against Israel's policy towards the Palestinians.

Yet, one point is uncontested: Recent months have seen a climb in the scope of the boycott of Israeli products imposed for political reasons.

An artist's pledge to boycott

I am proud to be among the many Irish and Ireland-based artists from across creative disciplines who have chosen to publicly support the growing campaign of boycott against apartheid Israel. Compared to the imprisoned Palestinian people themselves and to those taking part in flotillas and other perilous anti-apartheid activities in Palestine our contribution and risk may be justly considered small. At most we might lose the chance of lucrative invitations to read, perform or display our works in parts of the US where apartheid Israel's supporters hold the power of censorship. Departments of foreign affairs and ministries of culture may also not include us among those artists they can rely upon to project a lying image of a harmonious, bon vivant and, above all, harmlessly apolitical intelligentsia. We are sure to be slandered and ridiculed by the hired bullies of the global media empires.

These are tiny punishments indeed compared to the instant annihilation that Israel with its snipers and bombers and jet planes and tanks has visited on a daily basis upon Palestinian men, women and children for the last 62 years. The threat we come under for speaking out at a safe distance is nothing beside the threat apartheid Israel holds constant over every urban civilian in the Middle East with its 200-bomb-strong nuclear arsenal. Besides, to be ostracized and blacklisted by these last remaining friends of apartheid Israel, the gangster governments of west and east and their spies and ideological enablers, is to be reminded of the phrase of that great political artist William Blake, who tells us to "Listen to the fool's reproach -- it is a kingly title."

Israeli education ministry approves new 'whites-only' settlement school

Several months ago, a religious school in the illegal Israeli settlement of Immanuel was criticized for segregating white Jewish students from non-white Jewish students in classes.

Originally, the school was fined for this policy of racial segregation, because the school was state funded. Now, the Israeli education ministry has agreed with the white parents' request to allow the school to continue with its racial discrimination under private funding.

There is no law preventing racial discrimination by private organizations, even schools, in Israel.

The Israeli court has interpreted these laws to also apply to illegal West bank settlements, like Immanuel, which are located in areas that are supposed to be under Palestinian control. The Palestinian Authority does not allow racial discrimination, but due to the Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian Territories, it has no authority over the area in question.

74 white girls who have been studying in a building next to the school will now be allowed to study in whites-only classrooms that are privately funded, as their parents claim they do not want their girls to study in racially-mixed classrooms.

اسلاميون في المغرب ينتقدون 'التطبيع' مع اسرائيل عبر خدمة 'الرومينغ'

لندن ـ 'القدس العربي': قالت تقارير إعلامية ان شركة 'اتصالات المغرب' أدرجت ثلاث شركات إسرائيلية في إطار ما يسمى بخدمات التجوال الدولي للهاتف النقال (الرومينغ) بحيث أضحت إسرائيل ضمن الدول المشمولة بهذا الامتياز، وهو ما دفع بالمعارضة الإسلامية للمطالبة بإلغاء تلك العقود مهددة بطرح الموضوع أمام البرلمان.

قال موقع 'الجزيرة نت' ان الشركة المغربية بررت عقودها مع الشركات الإسرائيلية في قطاع الاتصالات - وهي شركة 'بارتنر كومينيكاسيو' الفرع الإسرائيلي لشركة أورانج الدولية، وشركة سيلكوم، وشركة بيليفون- بوجود جالية يهودية مغربية كبيرة في إسرائيل. ونفت 'اتصالات المغرب' أي تهم بالتطبيع، وقالت إن الخطوة ترمي إلى تسهيل وسائل الاتصال لمشتركيها في خدمة الهاتف النقال.

وأثارت الخطوة حفيظة المعارضة الإسلامية ممثلة في حزب العدالة والتنمية (مشارك بالبرلمان) الذي وصف الخطوة بأنها 'تطبيع مجاني لا يفيد إلا الكيان الصهيوني'، مهددة بطرح الموضوع أمام البرلمان المغربي. ونقلت 'الجزيرة' عن نائب الأمين العام لـحزب العدالة والتنمية (إسلامي) لحسن الداودي قوله إن 'المغرب يقاطع الكيان الصهيوني، والشعب المغربي ضد أي تطبيع'.

من جهته، قال منسق مجموعة العمل الوطنية لمساندة فلسطين والعراق خالد السفياني 'من المفروض على الدولة المغربية أن توقف هذه المهزلة'.

في المقابل قال عضو اللجنة التنفيذية لـحزب الاستقلال (الحاكم) عبد القادر الكيحل إن الهدف من إبرام عقود التجوال الدولي (الرومينغ) مع تلك الشركات هو تخفيض التكلفة على المتصل. وأضاف الكيحل 'الاتصال عبر الهاتف مع إسرائيل سيتحقق سواء عبر الأقمار الصناعية أو عبر خدمة الرومينغ'.

وعن سؤال عن احتمال تأثير الأطراف الأوروبية المساهمة في رأسمال اتصالات المغرب في الدفع نحو التعامل مع إسرائيل، نفى الكيحل أن تكون جهات أجنبية هي التي اتخذت القرار. وأكد أن الطرف المغربي هو الذي يتخذ القرار التدبيري لاتصالات المغرب. يشار إلى أن مجموعة فيفاندي الفرنسية تمتلك 53' من أسهم شركة اتصالات المغرب وتمتلك الحكومة المغربية 30'، في حين أن 17' من الأسهم مطروحة للتداول أمام العموم في بورصة الدار البيضاء.
